WHAT IS THE ACQTool?

The ACQTool is a short set of indicators developed by an international panel of experts, through extensive research and usability testing, to provide an accurate assessment of the quality of abortion service an individual has received during and after their abortion experience. The tool is designed for both in-facility and out-of-facility use, such as at pharmacies or hotlines. Find out more about the tool here.

Why is it important?

There is a critical need for a common suite of measures to evaluate the quality of abortion care in low- and middle-income countries. These measures must also go beyond the safety of the immediate procedure to assess client’s actual needs and values for their abortion care. Standardized measurement of abortion care quality, that includes client perspectives, contributes to improved health outcomes. Learn more about measuring abortion care quality here.

How does it work?

The simple, easy-to-use, set of ACQ indicators is collected via in-person or phone-based client exit interviews, from abortion clients receiving services either in a facility or via non-facility providers. Client responses can be captured and analyzed electronically via KoBotoolbox or on paper surveys. Analysis and visualization can then be performed using our dashboard app or statistical software code. Results can help providers and other stakeholders improve services and health outcomes.
